Product Overview

  • Building on the huge success of ‘Whiplash Pro’, we have produced Whiplash Crystal. This is the original Whiplash but in a new ‘Crystal’ transluscent formula that is far less visible to fish. This is a braid and not a fusion line that is constructed from 100% Micro-Dyneema in a tight weave finish. It is very angler friendly and can be used on multipliers or fixed spool reels with  confidence in saltwater or fresh water. For trolling, deep water jigging, Big Catfish, Carp or live bait fishing. All will work with Whiplash. New attractive packaging, adjusted run lengths for better full reel spooling make Whiplash ready for the next seasons to come.

Although not cheap, TC editor Marc Coulson reckons this new super braid from Berkley could be the answer to your long-casting prayers... Anyone who has fished with me over any period of time will tell you what a huge fan of braid I am. The first time that I used it I was petrified at every slight lunge and flick of the carp attached to the other end, such is braid's ability to transmit and exaggerate even the slightest sensation. However, once over the initial concern I was absolutely smitten with the stuff. Apart from the increased sensitivity - that's why so many anglers choose braid on their marker set-ups - a huge advantage of many braids is the superior diameter-to-braking-strain ratio. This aids casting enormously. I've used several braids, including those from Fox, Nash and PowerPro - the latter being a long-time favourite - and each has its own pros and cons. Some sink, some don't and it is the latter that are the furthest casters, due to the thinner and lighter make-up. When I was sent a couple of spools of the new Whiplash Crystal I decided that I'd give it a go. Loads of my braid-using mates have told me that Whiplash is a cracking line that casts miles, but I've never felt the need to deviate from what I already use. I only loaded it on to some 10000 XTE-A Baitrunners because I didn't have the heart to remove the braid already on my big-pit reels. Now, these Baitrunners are not huge reels but they do still cast well, so I was expecting big things from the new combination. I was not at all disappointed because the 20lb Whiplash Crystal, which boasts a ridiculously thin diameter of just 0.06mm, performed brilliantly. I went to a club water near Coventry and decided to fish towards an island, which is normally a reasonably decent chuck, even with my big-pit reels. The ease with which I cast a 3oz lead right to the island margin was unbelievable. It seemed to be just a flick as opposed to any real effort and, remember, this was with 'smaller' reels. So, the casting potential was proven to me in an instant and I continued to chuck it a decent way throughout the afternoon session. However, what separates this from previous Whiplash braids is the semi-translucent claim of the manufacturers. Once home I tested it in clear tap water. The braid had picked up sediment from the lake I fished, but the cleaner areas definitely showed up much less than any other braid that I have ever used. It certainly wasn't invisible but it was extremely discreet. I am very impressed. Review by Marc Coulson from Total Carp.
